[mod.L., f. Gr. ἀκτίς, -ιν- ray (see actino-) + µύκης fungus.]
The ray-fungus, the presence of which, in cattle, constitutes the disease ˌactinomyˈcosis, forms of which are known as lumpy jaw (lumpy a. 1 c) and wooden tongue (wooden a. 9). Also attrib. Hence ˌactinomyˈcotic a., resembling, related to, or caused by actinomyces.
