The designation of an acid C₁₈H₃₄O₂, a solid isomeric modification of elaic (oleic) acid, produced by the action of nitrous acid. Also elaidic ethers: a name for two oily liquids, elaidate of ethyl (C₁₈H₃₃O₂·C₂H₅) and elaidate of methyl (C₁₆H₃₃O₂·CH₃), prepared from elaidic acid and alcohol. So eˈlaidate [see -ate⁴], a salt of elaidic acid. eˈlaidin [see -in], a solid isomeric modification of olein, produced by the action of nitrous acid on olein.
