Simpson, differs from the traditional kaleidoscope as..any object whatever can, through an aperture at the end, be placed within it—a bee, for instance, a butterfly, a spray of maiden⁓hair fern, or a sprig of heather, producing a complex vision of quite inconceivable beauty. 2. = phantascope.
