L. sax-um rock + -i- + domus home) + toxin.] A toxic alkaloid (C10H17O4N7.2HCl) synthesized by dinoflagellates of the genus Gonyaulax (which cause ‘red tides’) and accumulated by molluscs which feed on these, which thereby become toxic to man.
