An ionic solid whose crystal lattice consists of cations and electrons, instead of cations and anions as in a salt.
1977J. L. Dye in Sci. Amer. July 105/2 Preliminary measurements suggest that the solids contain exactly one unpaired electron per cation; if that is confirmed, then the films are not metallic at all but are the first example of a new class of salts: the ‘electride’ salts.1981Jrnl.
