The name of Edward Smith Stanley (1775–1851), 13th Earl of Derby, zoologist, used attrib. to denote birds named in his honour, as Stanley bustard, a large black and brown bustard, Neotis denhami (formerly Otis stanleyi), native to south-eastern Africa; Stanley crane = paradise crane s.v. paradise n. 8; (Tetrapteryx paradisea, formerly Anthropoides stanleyanus).
