Any terpene with the formula C20H32; also, any of the simple derivatives of such a hydrocarbon, differing in their substituents or their degree of saturation from the diterpenes proper. Hence diˈterpenoid, a term used in place of diterpene when this is restricted to compounds of the formula C20H32 only; also attrib. or as adj.
