The name of Herman Treschow Gartner (1785–1827), Danish anatomist, used to designate certain anatomical structures distinguished or described by him; as Gartner's canal or Gartner's duct, a vestigial part of the Wolffian duct in some female mammals, running from the parovarium through the broad ligament to the vagina. Hence Gartˈnerian a.; esp. Gartnerian cyst (see quot. 1900).

The excretory ducts of the Wolffian bodies disappear in the human female, but in some of the lower animals, as the pig, they persist, and receive this name.1876Quain's Elem. Anat.
