[f. grano-, taken as combining form of granite (cf. granophyre) + diorite.]
Any of the plutonic igneous rocks intermediate in composition between true granite and quartz-diorite, which are similar in appearance to granite but are usu. darker in colour; esp. one in which there is at least twice as much plagioclase as alkali feldspar.
