A salt of osmium containing the anion [OsO₄(OH)₂]^2-, in which osmium has an oxidation state of 8. Formerly represented as M₂O.OsO₄ (where M is an alkali metal) and called osmiates (see osmiate).
The passage in ed. 7 (1890) of Bloxham's Chem. corresponding to quot. 1895 occurs s.v. osmiate.
