a. A Japanese Buddhist sect which teaches salvation through absolute faith in the Buddha Amida and constant repetition of a formulaic prayer invoking his name.
b. One of the heavens of Buddhist faith; spec. the Western Paradise, where the Buddha Amida resides. Also attrib. or as adj.
