The name of Karl Wilhelm von Kupffer (1829–1902), Bavarian anatomist and embryologist, used in Kupffer('s) cell (also cell of Kupffer), a phagocytic cell that occurs in the lining of the sinusoids of the liver and has long radiating processes of cytoplasm (described by Kupffer in 1876).
