1. The basin-shaped cavity formed (in most vertebrates) by the right and left haunch-bones or ossa innominata (consisting of the ilium, ischium, and pubis, on each side) together with the sacrum and other vertebræ; being the lowest or hindmost cavity of the trunk. Also applied to these bones themselves collectively, constituting the girdle which supports the hind limbs.
