[ad. Hindī pach(ch)īsī, lit. ‘of pach(ch)īs', i.e. twenty-five; the standard form outside India now includes an intrusive r.]
A four-handed game played in India and subsequently also elsewhere, on a cruciform board or (more often) cloth, with six cowries for dice: so named from the highest throw, which is twenty-five. Also attrib. (A simplified form is known in Europe as ludo.)
