Having a fine grain (grain n.1 12–15); consisting of particles that are very small (grain n.1 7); spec. in Photogr., containing or composed of particles smaller than normal, so that considerable enlargement of the photograph is possible without any graininess becoming apparent; suitable for producing such photographs.
