单词 | black rubric |
释义 | black rubric An inaccurate term for the declaration explanatory of the rubric concerning kneeling at the reception of the Holy Communion, which was first inserted at the end of the Communion Office in the Book of Common Prayer of 1552 (omitted in 1559, and restored in 1662) (see quot. 1957).
1866J. H. Blunt Annot. Bk. Com. Prayer 199 They retained the protest against Transubstantiation, whilst they removed all risk of the Declaration, or ‘Black rubric’ as it was sometimes called. 1877E. Daniel Prayer-Book 333 The Black Rubric explains the intention of the rubric, which prescribes that communicants should receive the Holy Communion kneeling. 1957Oxf. Dict. Chr. Ch. 176/1 The expression ‘Black Rubric’ dates only from the 19th cent. when the practice of printing the BCP with the rubrics in red was introduced and the fact that the ‘Declaration’ was really not a rubric at all was marked by printing it in black. In modern two-colour reprints of the BCP it will be found, however, printed in red. |
