A whitish powder that is a derivative of phenothiazine and has actions and uses similar to, but stronger than, those of chlorpromazine, being used as a sedative and anti-emetic and in the treatment of alcoholism; 2-chloro-10-{ob}3-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazin-1-yl]propyl{cb}phenothiazine, C₂₁H₂₆N₃OClS.
1957Jrnl. Pharmacol. & Exper. Therap. CXX. 376 Sch3940 is now known by the generic name of perphenazine and is marketed under the trade name, Trilafon.1971P. K. Bridges Psychiatric Emergencies vi. 158 Chlorpromazine.., trifluoperazine..and perphenazine (Fentazin, Trilafon) are commonly given to patients with neurotic illnesses.1978Nature 23 Mar. 331/2 Chlorpromazine and perphenazine were found..to be as effective as conventional tricyclic antidepressant drugs in the treatment of certain forms of depression.
