A weakly sympathomimetic amine, HO·C6H4·CHOH·CH2NH2, which under the action of monoamine oxidase inhibitors may accumulate in nerves in place of the closely related noradrenaline, thereby inhibiting the transmission of nerve impulses and causing vasoconstriction; 1-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-2-aminoethanol.
