The scientific study of the music of a culture or sub-culture, considered either as a combination of sounds or as an aspect of socio-cultural behaviour; also, the comparative study of the music of more than one culture. Hence ˌethnomusicoˈlogical a., pertaining to this study; ˌethnomusiˈcologist, a student of or expert in ethnomusicology.
