[Arab. sāqiyah, fem. pr. pple. of saqā to irrigate. In North Africa the q is pronounced (g), whence the form sageer.]
A machine for drawing water for irrigation, consisting of a large vertical wheel to which a number of earthen pots are attached, and to which motion is imparted by a horizontal wheel turned by oxen or asses.

One of the ways in which the water is generally raised is by the Sakiah, or Persian wheel. 1832Veg. Subst.
