[ad. G. heterogenit (A. Frenzel 1872, in Jrnl. f. prakt. Chem. V. 404), f. Gr. ἑτερογεν-ής of different kinds, in allusion to the fact that the mineral differs in composition from some manganese oxides, which it outwardly resembles: see -ite¹.]
