Spence (1885–1978), Canadian mineralogist + -ite1.] A metamict borosilicate of rare-earth and other elements (chiefly yttrium and calcium), which is closely related to tritomite and occurs as brownish- or greenish-black grains and irregular masses.

Spence in 1934 from a prospect pit in Cardiff township..and was tentatively identified as thalenite. 1968I.
