A metamict borosilicate of rare-earth and other elements (chiefly yttrium and calcium), which is closely related to tritomite and occurs as brownish- or greenish-black grains and irregular masses.

Kostov Mineral. 319 Spencite, Y₃(CeTh)CaBSi₂O₁₃, is another member [of the tourmaline group] occurring as black grains.1973Canad.
