[app. a popular corruption of F. perce pierre, lit. ‘pierce-stone’, according to Littré, one of the Fr. names of this plant: cf. breakstone.] A dwarf annual herb (Alchemilla arvensis), allied to the Lady's Mantle, growing on dry barren ground, hedge-banks, etc., with jagged leaves and minute green axillary flowers. (Erron. applied to the Knawel, Scleranthus annuus: see quot. 1597.)
