Orig., any compound with a structure based on two coumarin molecules joined together; now spec. the compound 3,3′-methylenebis-(4-hydroxycoumarin), C₁₉H₁₂ O₆, a white powder first isolated from spoiled sweet clover as the cause of hæmorrhage in sweet clover poisoning of cattle and later prepared synthetically and used as an anti-coagulant.
