[ad. Gr. ὀκταετηρίς, -ιδ-, f. ὀκτα- octa- + ἔτος year. In F. octaétéride (1732 in Dict. Trévoux).]
In the ancient Greek calendar, a period of eight years, in the course of which three months of 30 days each were intercalated so as to bring the year of 12 lunar months into accord with the solar year. So octaeteric |-ɪˈtɛrɪk| a., of or belonging to this period.
