“hominin”的英英意思

单词 hominin
释义 hominin, n. and a. Palaeontol.
Brit. |ˈhɒmɪnɪn|, U.S. |ˈhɑməˌnɪn|
[‹ scientific Latin Hominini, tribe name (E. Delson & P. Andrews 1975, in W. P. Luckett & F. S. Szalay Phylogeny of Primates 441) > n.1) + -īnī, plural of -īnus -ine suffix1, after scientific Latin Homo, genus name.]
A. n. A member of a species regarded as human, directly ancestral to humans, or very closely related to humans, and in many modern classifications placed in the tribe Hominini.
Some authors regard the tribe Hominini as including the genus Homo and the Australopithecines, thus making hominin equivalent to hominid in older schemes. Others define the tribe so as to include the chimpanzees, and sometimes also the gorillas.
1989C. P. Groves Theory Primate & Human Evol. iv. 192 A mandibular fragment..from Lothagam..is the earliest fossil considered to be a hominin (i.e. a member of the Hominini).1993Ann. Rev. Ecol. & Systematics 24 157 That estimate fits well with molecular clock estimates of 7–8 MYA for the Gorilla—hominin split and 5–7 MYA for the HomoPan split.2003B. Bryson Short Hist. Nearly Everything (2004) xxviii. 523 Many authorities believe that chimps, gorillas and orangutans should also be included in the family Hominidae, with humans and chimps in a subfamily called Homininae. The upshot is that the creatures traditionally called hominids become, under this arrangement, hominins.2004Nature 28 Oct. 1043/1 The find is startling. It is of a pygmy-sized, small-brained hominin, which lived as recently as 18,000 years ago.
B. adj. Of or relating to hominins; belonging to the tribe Hominini.
1989C. P. Groves Theory Primate & Human Evol. vi. 193 The hominin fossil is only a little below the basalt.1989Science 22 Dec. 1645/2 Groves, advocating another cladistic approach, calls humans, chimps, gorillas, and orangs the Hominidae, humans chimps, and gorillas the Homininae, and the human fossil record the tribe Hominini—thus, hominin evolution.1999Nature 15 July 219/2 There is relatively little hominin fossil evidence from between 3 and 2 Myr ago.2004Daily Tel. 28 Oct. 4/7 Almost certainly similar endemic hominin species will turn up in other parts of south-east Asia, the Wallacean Islands of Sumbawa, Lombok, Timor and Sulawesi being prime candidates.
